The future of Mat Cauthon
- MAT IMPROVING THE ART OF WAR:
- [Vol.7, p.250 pb] Egwene dreams of Mat seizing fireworks and changing the
world by doing so; men will die. I think this one is obvious, given his
relationship with the last free Illuminator, Aludra, and her hints about fire powder
and bell founders. She promised to tell him all of the Guild's secrets if he can
solve the riddle of why she would have need of a bell founder.
- [Vol.9] Mat secretly freed damane Nestelle din Sakura South Star, who
created all sorts of mayhem for the Seanchan when she and the Windfinders fought their way free.
Nestelle promised to rally her people against the Seanchan,
and swore she will remember Mat Cauthon. Sounds like a ready-made fleet for Mat.
- [Vol.10] Egwene dreams of Mat bowling and killing thousands of men, and knowing that an
Illuminator is involved. So Mat will come up with a nifty new invention which
resembles a cannon. Next comes guns . . . and bombs . . . and before you know it, the world
will be armed and ready for Tarmon Gai'don.
- MAT AS A DA'COVALE (SLAVE TO SEANCHAN):
- [Vol.4, p.207 pb] Egwene dreams of Mat being on a Seanchan's invisible leash.
This could mean that Tuon will buy him as a personal slave;
perhaps to save him from Anath or some other threat. After all, when Mat
announced that Tuon "is my wife!" after he had bound and gagged her, Egeanin claimed
that the insult was enough to be "slowly tortured to death."
- [Vol.6] Egwene dreams that two ravens own Mat. Might these be Tuon and her
Truth-Speaker Anath? Or perhaps the Seeker will be involved.
- [Vol.9] When Mat fled Ebou Dar, Queen Tylin swore that she would
sell him to Tuon, should she ever see him again. This could be foreshadowing.
- [Vol.10] Tuon insists on calling Mat "Toy," and expresses interest in owning him.
- MAT LOSES HIS LEFT EYE, AND TWO AES SEDAI:
- [Vol.1] The night after lightning saved Rand and Mat from Darkfriend Howal Gode, Mat
woke up clutching his hand over his eyes. He claimed that in his nigtmare, the Dark One
had taken his eyes.
- [Vol.3] Egwene dreams of Mat placing his own left eye on a balance scale.
This prophecy has been repeated several times throughout the saga.
- [Vol.4, p.253 pb] The Aelfin predicted that Mat will
"give up half the light of the world to save the world."
This could easily be a referral to the future loss of his left eye.
- [Vol.5, p.301 pb] Egwene dreams of Mat gambling with blood streaming down his face.
- [Vol.6, p.435 pb] The Wise Ones dream of a tilting scale. Might this have
something to do with the upcoming gamble?
- [Vol.8] Egwene dreams of Mat weighing two Aes Sedai against a vast matter.
It seems the only pair of Aes Sedai Mat will be likely to gamble with are Teslyn and Joline
(who were partners working under Elaida), or Teslyn and Edesina (both were damane).
The vast matter could be the entire Seanchan hierarchy . . . or it might have something to
do with the male a'dam that may enslave Rand.
- [Vol.9] Teslyn swore to Mat that she would do whatever he asked of her upon being
freed. This makes for some interesting possibilities. If Mat truly has
to sacrifice two Aes Sedai in a gamble, he may ask Teslyn to participate.
After rescuing her, that seems quite harsh.
- [Vol.10] Mat leaves Ebou Dar with three Aes Sedai: Joline,
Teslyn, and Edesina.
- [Vol.10] When Mat was buying cloth for Tuon in the town of Jurador, he saw Edesina in town, and two figures
following her. Were these her peers, Tesyn and Joline, or were these the sul'dam, Bethamin and Seta?
For that matter, why did Edesina risk her life to sneak around a Seanchan-controlled town?
The future of Tuon and the Seanchan
- [Vol.1, p.205 pb] Ba'alzamon claims that the Seanchan are involved in a
"doom yet to come." Is this referring to their current invasion,
or might it have to do with the male a'dam?
- [Vol.9] Tuon Athaem Kore Paendrag has been tested and trained as a sul'dam.
Her favorite damane is Mylen--formerly Sheraine Sedai--whom Tuon rehabilitated
and trained herself.
- [Vol.9] Lidya, One of Tuon's damane, scared and angered Tuon when she predicted Tuon's future.
- [Vol.10] Tuon has learned what being a sul'dam really means, but she may be in denial.
She may not be able to tell her mother, the Empress.
- [Vol.10] Tuon could easily, and perhaps accidentally, complete the marriage ceremony between her
and Mat.
About the Kin
- [Vol.9] Setalle Anan, the innkeeper of the Wandering Woman in Ebou Dar,
may be a stilled Aes Sedai; perhaps even a former Amyrlin.
This would explain the unresolved clue to finding the Rain Bowl:
"Find the one who is no longer."
Evidence in Winter's Heart supports this theory.
- Joline Sedai commented that Setalle seemed like someone she once knew;
someone familiar whom she could not place.
- When Setalle put on the a'dam bracelet to test if she could act as
a sul'dam for Joline, Joline freaked out, as though experiencing intense pain . . . such as being stilled.
- Setalle refuses to live in a city where "women who channel
are kept like animals," and risks her life and family in order to leave.
- The Kin treat Setalle with the same respect due to a former Aes Sedai.
- Several times throughout the series, Kin have been on the verge of saying
something about Setalle, then snapping their mouths shut.
The future of the Atha'an Miere
- [Vol.9] Nesta din Reas Two Moons (Mistress of the Ships) and her
Blademaster Baroc were executed by the Seanchan.
- [Vol.9] By Sea Folk customs, Renaile din Calon Blue Star--the Windfinder
to the Mistress of the Ships--will have to start her career all over again from the bottom.
- [Vol.9] Wavemistress Harine din Togara Two Winds will become
the Mistress of the Ships, according to a viewing by Min. This will
probably come about because the previous Mistress was executed by Seanchan.
However, Harine is power-hungry, arrogant, and treats her older sister--Windfinder
Shalon din Togara Morning Tide--like crap. Her attitude suggests
that she may be a Darkfriend.
- [Vol.9] Cadsuane wants to use Shalon to spy on Harine, and blackmails
her with the threat of revealing her lesbian relationship with Ailil ("pillow friends"),
which would end Shalon's respectable marriage and reduce her rank to something
horrible. Shalon told Harine that she was supposed to be spying on her,
and now Harine wants Shalon to use the spying as an excuse to learn how to
weave Gateways. Shalon is caught between a rock and a hard place:
Cadsuane and Harine. To make matters worse for her, Harine is suddenly
acting sweet and nice, which she hasn't done since childhood. It sounds
like she will be manipulating Shalon . . . but what does she want?
- [Vol.9] Mat secretly freed damane Nestelle, a Windfinder, who swore
she would rally her people against the Seanchan.
The future of Perrin Goldeneyes and Faile Bashere
- FRIENDS AND ENEMIES:
- [Vol.3, p.291 pb] In her dreams, Egwene sees a female hawk, Berelain,
trying to leash Perrin. Min also saw the female hawk and a falcon,
Faile, on Perrin's shoulders.
- [Vol.4, p.207 pb] Egwene dreams of Perrin fighting a man with a
changing face. Does this mean Lord Luc/ Isam (Slayer)? Or
will Perrin fight a future Rand/ Lews Therin?
- [Vol.5, p.301 pb] Egwene dreams about Aram being doom.
Is Aram a Darkfriend trying to get close to Perrin? Or will he
just make a stupid mistake in the future?
- [Vol.6] Min viewed that Perrin must be there twice for Rand.
The first time, we can assume, was at Dumai's Wells.
- [Vol.8] Egwene dreams of Perrin and Aram hacking through
"human brambles" toward an "unseen cliff." The human brambles
could be the Shaido Aiel, dragonsworn, Seanchan, Mayeners, and other conflicting armies.
They may, however, be the Two Rivers men, who were once a "bramble in the Dark One's hand."
The unseen cliff could be any enemy that isn't obvious. Perhaps Eamon Valda will
lead the Whitecloaks against Perrin, or Galina will escape and wreak havoc.
- [Vol.9] Masema the Prophet is up to something sinister.
When Perrin ordered Masema to be escorted immediately to Rand, he agreed
to go, although he refused to Travel . . . and then he changed his mind and
grudgingly agreed to Travel in order to accompany Perrin and his company
south in search of Faile and the Shaido army. It would be much easier
for Masema and his dragonsworn army to head east as planned while Perrin
rescues Faile and catches up. Why would the Prophet refuse to Travel
to the Dragon Reborn, but make an exception for Perrin's need?
All southern lands are now controlled by Seanchan.
Masema has been seen meeting with Suroth. Is he guiding Perrin
into a Seanchan trap?
- [Vol.10] All of Perrin's loyal men believe that he is cheating on Faile with
Berelain. Perrin doesn't care, because ALL of his energy is focused on finding
Faile. Meanwhile, Faile is working on seducing one of her captors, Rolan,
in order to escape. Perrin is close to a breaking point. He threw away his axe.
When he sees Faile with Rolan . . . he'll snap.
- THE BLACKSMITH BECOMES A KING:
- [Vol.1] Min views Perrin with a broken crown and trees.
Perhaps Perrin will restore Manetheren, and/or Ogier groves.
- [Vol.4] Faile is second in line for the Saldeaen throne, after
her father Davram and Queen Tenobia. Both Davram and Tenobia are
absent from Saldaea. Will the people rise up and demand a succession?
- [Vol.7] Rand broke the Sun Crown from Colavere's head in front
of Perrin, then used his power to make it whole again. Does this
have something to do with Min's viewing of the broken crown around Perrin,
or is that yet to come?
- [Vol.8] Davram Bashere explained that one who expands the borders
of a nation "wears a crown of swords." This could apply
to Rand ruling Illian with his Crown of Laurels, but perhaps Perrin
will expand the Two Rivers to its ancient glory.
