These are four guest strips that I drew for the
Wot Now? web comic.
DO NOT READ THIS COMIC UNLESS YOU HAVE READ THE WHEEL OF TIME BOOKS 9 & 10.
Otherwise you won't get it--and this comic contains spoilers.

 |
Aes Sedai are women who often use their ability to channel the One Power to intimidate people into
doing what they want. The color of her fringed shawl symbolizes which one of the seven factions,
or Ajahs, she belongs to. The Yellow Ajah specializes in Healing.
Loial: "Never anger an Aes Sedai. Better to
embrace the sun than to anger an Aes Sedai."
|
 |
A Wise One can also channel the One Power, but they put more emphasis on honor, obligation, and honesty,
and less emphasis on intimidation based on strength. Wise Ones are notorious for being tough.
Sorilea, a Wise One: "In my day, girls jumped when a Wise One said jump, and continued jumping until
they were told to stop. As I am still alive, it is still my day. Need I make myself clearer?"
|
 |
The Forsaken are thirteen of the most powerful, most feared channelers of the previous Age, and they have
survived for 3,000 years imprisoned only reemerge now in an era that seems primitive to them. Demandred
is probably the most devious, while Semirhage is the most sadistic.
Sammael was once a military general, and Graendal (seated upon one of her "pretties") is
a hedonist and former cult leader.
Graendal: ""Is that what we are? Merely human? Surely we are something
more. ... A new word will have to be created to describe us."
|
 |
Lanfear is the most powerful of the female Forsaken, and is widely known as the sexiest woman in
The Wheel of Time universe. Here she is holding an angreal bracelet.
Lanfear: "I can show a tender, woman's heart when I choose."
|
 |
Lanfear has tried to seduce Rand as often as she's attempted to kill him.
Lanfear, to Rand: "If you are not mine, then you are dead." |
 |
Alviarin is not a member of the Forsaken, but she's scary-smart and makes most of the other bad guys seem
incompetent. She is a respected member of the White Ajah, which specializes in logical thought,
and she is secretly the Supreme Leader of the Black Ajah.
The Amyrlin Seat, to Alviarin: "I will sign what you tell me to sign, and
nothing else. I am...I am obedient to your will." |
 |
Rand al'Thor is the central character of The Wheel of Time saga. Yeah, I
know he's supposed to be hot, but come on, he was a simple farmboy in the beginning!
Rand: "What kind of need would be great enough that we'd want the Dragon to
save us from it? As well ask for help from the Dark One." |
 |
Rand is the Dragon Reborn, which means he is doomed to go mad and kill a lot of people, and he has
cool markings on his arms (not tattoos). He likes to stay in shape by fighting six worthy opponents at once.
The only problem is that he has to pay people to fight him, because he's scary.
Rand, to Taim: "The Forsaken are reeling; I mean to hunt them all down, eradicate them.
And you will help me."
|
 |
Rand's Dragon Scepter is a tassled spearhead that was shot at him. He looks pissed off because a crazy voice
in his head keeps telling him to kill people.
Rand, to the Tower embassy: "For your own safety, none of you should come closer to me
than a mile without permission." |
 |
Lews Therin Telamon is the disembodied voice inside Rand's head.
Because he's been dead for three thousand years, and he was, after all, a political leader, I picture
him as looking sort of like an ancient Roman.
Lews Therin: "Oh, Light, why do I have a madman in my head? Why? Why?" |
 |
"The Battle on Toman Head" - This is a study for a
painting I would like to do someday. Rand and his arch-enemy,
Ba'alzamon, battle in the clouds over the city of Falme, in the
war-torn coastal penninsula known as Toman Head. (my apologies,
the quarterstaff and a few other things are drawn inaccurately).
General Bashere, to Rand: "I guess being ta'veren
isn't all cheese and ale." |
 |
Perrin Aybara once worked at a blacksmith's forge, but he has gained an
ability to communicate with wolves. He shares their heightened senses, their ability to detect moods,
and their animal ferocity.
Perrin, to his axe: "Rand is the one who's supposed to go mad,
and here I am, talking to an axe!" |
 |
Perrin, along with Rand and Mat, bends fate and lives to his own fate for a time, and
twists chance just by being present. This trait is known as being ta'veren.
Perrin: "It's all sort of complicated, but it just happened. Nothing to do with ta'veren." |
 |
Faile Bashere is a Hunter for the Horn who becomes deeply jealous of any woman who shows the smallest
sign of liking Perrin, whom she has staked a claim to.
Faile: "...I still feel as forward as a farmgirl at-- Why are you laughing?
Stop laughing at me, Perrin t'Bashere Aybara!" |
 |
Mat Cauthon: scoundrel, womanizer, and gambler extraordinaire. He has that
Han Solo quality, but on top of that, he has a "luck factor." He can make a fortune during one
night of gambling.
Mat worries: I'm a gambler, a farmboy, and I'm here to take
command of your bloody army. |
 |
Here's Mat again. He started a new fashion trend, but
(like most of the situations he gets into), it was completely by accident. He bought
the wide-brimmed hat in order to keep the desert sun out of
his eyes. The handkerchief around his neck hides a hanging scar that he's ashamed of.
Mat: "I'm no lord. I've more respect for myself
than that." |
 |
Mat again! He has a tendency to sleep with dangerous women.
Oh, and "smallclothes" is The Wheel of Time word for underwear.
Mat, speaking of Queen Tylin: "That woman has more hands than any six women I
ever met." |
 |
Moiraine Damodred is an Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah, known for keeping secrets and handling
world-threatening emergencies with her hair freshly combed. She's holding one of the seven Seals
on the Dark One's prison in this drawing [left]; not a cookie.
Moiraine: "Tonight you will eat fish. Tomorrow, you may die."
|
 |
Elayne Trakand is the Daughter-Heir of Andor, and something of a spoiled brat, although she shows
promise as an Aes Sedai. She is also deeply in love with Rand.
Elayne: "Sisters don't bond the same man because of custom,
Rand, because they don't want to share him, not because it can't be done." |
 |
Morgase of House Trakand is the Queen of Andor, and Elayne's mother.
Elayne, to Rand: "If I had told Mother I think you are handsome,
she certainly would have had you locked in a cell." |
 |
Young Tallanvor serves Queen Morgase faithfully...perhaps too faithfully.
Morgase, to Tallanvor: "It is not your place to question your Queen, young man.
A loyal man, as I know that you are loyal, serves without question." |
 |
Egwene al'Vere was the mayor's daughter in her village, but she hasn't looked back since she learned
she can channel the One Power and become an Aes Sedai.
Mat, to Egwene: "When the poor blind fool they've chosen out for
their Amyrlin gets here, I will do the talking. She can't be very bright, or they'd never have been
able to shove her into the job." |
 |
Nynaeve al'Meara makes me think of Janine Garafalo. She's sassy,
sarcastic, snappish, and silly. Her trademark action is tugging on her long braid whenever
she's angry, which is most of the time.
Nynaeve: "I do not have to make sense." |
 |
This was just a quick sketch on the back-side of a used notebook page, but I
think it captured their personalities, so I colored it. Aviendha is
an Aiel warrior; quick to threaten people and pick fights.
Min Farshaw is a happy-go-lucky tomboy. Both are deeply in love with the same man.
The two are rarely seen together, but they make a great contrast!
Aviendha: "Death comes for us all. We can only choose
how to face it when it comes."
Min: "Fall in love with a man, and you end up doing laundry, even if it does belong to another man."
|
 |
Thom Merrlin is an aging gleeman--traveling entertainer--who likes to eat fire and involve himself in
dangerous political undercurrents.
Thom: "I'm only an old gleeman. Who could I possibly be dangerous to?"
|
 |
Loial is a ten-foot tall Ogier who plans to write a book about Rand and his friends, but is often too
busy fighting by their sides to get any work done.
Loial: "Stay and get married or travel the Ways. Life is very unsettling with
ta'veren for friends."
|
 |
Birgitte is a legendary archer from a different era in The Wheel of Time universe.
Birgitte: "If you must mount the gallows, give a jest to the crowd, a coin to the hangman,
and make the drop with a smile on your lips."
|
 |
Shantae is the half-genie title character of
the Gameboy Color game conceived of by Matt Bozon. It's a really fun game!
I can tell you because I was a tester on it.
|
 |
Daenerys Targaryen -- known to many as Daenerys Stormborn -- is a fourteen-year-old conqueror, owner of
dragons, ruler of slaves, widow of a barbarian warlord, innocent military genius, princess in exile, rightful heir to a powerful empire, and one of
my favorite characters from George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire
saga. C'mon, how can you not be impressed by her résumé? If you haven't read the ASoIaF saga yet,
check out my review!
